CM Rekha inaugurates two new Atal Canteens in Shalimar Bagh

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated two new Atal Canteens in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura, where nutritious meals are served to the needy for Rs 5. The Chief Minister said that the government will soon introduce a special plan for them as well, so that no poor or needy person remains hungry.
During the inaugural ceremony in Shalimar Bagh, Gupta tasted the meals served and praised their quality and nutritional value. Later, she inaugurated another canteen at GP Block, Seva Basti in Pitampura, which she announced would be developed into a public service centre with an Ayushman Arogya Mandir, toilets, and an RO plant for safe drinking water.
A touching moment was witnessed at the Pitampura venue when the Chief Minister personally served food to elderly women. “Their blessings strengthened my belief that this initiative is on the right path,” she said.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by MP Praveen Khandelwal, councillor Anita Jain, and local dignitaries, said several social organisations had expressed interest in supporting the scheme. “We will soon introduce a special plan for them so that no poor or needy person remains hungry,” she said.
The Chief Minister first inaugurated the Atal Canteen located near Kela Godam Road in Shalimar Bagh.
She herself ate at the canteen and praised the quality and nutritional value of the food. Thereafter, an Atal Canteen was also inaugurated at GP Block, Seva Basti, Pitampura. She announced that this canteen complex will be developed as a comprehensive public service centre, with facilities such as an Ayushman Arogya Mandir, clean toilet amenities and an RO plant for safe drinking water.
The chief minister said the canteens draw inspiration from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision of ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last person in society. “These are not just food outlets but a compassionate effort to support Delhi’s hardworking citizens,” she said.
She added that Atal Canteens are not merely food outlets, but a compassionate initiative by the government to provide respect and support to the hardworking brothers and sisters engaged in building and running Delhi.
