CM Rekha inaugurates new power substation for metro

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday inaugurated a new state-of-the-art Electric Receiving Sub Station (RSS) at Park Street (near the Central Vista Project) to ensure a continuous and reliable power supply to key routes of the Delhi Metro, further strengthening Metro services. It will also support the upcoming expansion of the Metro network.
The Chief Minister was briefed in detail about the benefits of this new facility constructed by the Delhi Metro in the heart of the city.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed the relocation and reconstruction of this Electric Receiving Sub Station (RSS) at Park Street as part of the Central Vista Project of the Government of India.
The Chief Minister stated that the sub-station has been developed using new and advanced technologies, and completing its reconstruction within just 18 months is a significant achievement.
The Chief Minister said that the Electric Receiving Sub-Station has been developed in a manner that ensures Delhi Metro lines do not face any power-related issues and that Metro services continue to operate without interruption. Describing the Delhi Metro as a “byword for trust”, she said that as the network moves towards nearly 500 kilometres, it continues to progress with high reliability and a “no-failure model”.
The Park Street RSS was originally constructed in 2010 during Phase 2 of the Delhi Metro to supply power to the DMRC Airport Line and Line 6 (Violet Line). During 2021-22, the facility was dismantled to facilitate the construction of the Central Vista Project.
Reconstruction of a new RSS commenced in 2023 on alternate land provided by CPWD, culminating in its completion in December 2025, duly accounting for the power requirement of the Central-Vista Metro line from Indraprastha to RK Ashram Marg.
All major existing electrical equipment has been re-erected and commissioned, including 66 kV Power transformers, 66 kV GIS panels, 33 kV panels, and 25 kV GIS panels. The new combined RSS will supply power to the Metro Trains and Stations of Airport Line, Line 6, and further, an additional 25 kV feeders are provided for Traction Power requirements of the upcoming Central Vista Metro Line (Indraprastha to R K Ashram Marg) under its Phase-5A Expansion Project.
The new RSS facility has been constructed as per the latest standards, incorporating an upgraded Substation Automation System, energy-efficient VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) Air conditioning and LED lighting.
Advanced safety measures include Automatic Fire Protection Systems for transformer protection and Electrical Panels, including a fully addressable fire alarm system to ensure operational reliability. The new RSS has been designed in line with Green Building compliance standards, and a certification has been applied for it. In addition, a Solar Roof top power system is planned to further enhance sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of operations.
The completion of the Park Street RSS under the Central Vista Project of the Government of India marks another step in DMRC’s commitment to modern, safe, and sustainable infrastructure, ensuring a reliable power supply for Delhi Metro’s expanding network.
