CM Rekha Gupta vows quality education for ‘Viksit Delhi’

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday reiterated her government’s objective to ensure quality education and improved infrastructure for every child, thereby strengthening the resolve to build a Viksit Delhi.
The Government’s vision, she emphasised, goes beyond literacy and focuses on preparing children to meet future challenges by equipping Government schools with modern facilities and fostering holistic development.
Rekha Gupta made these assertions after performing the BhumiPujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for the permanent building of KendriyaVidyalaya at KhajuriKhas in North-East Delhi. She also inaugurated the temporary premises of the school, enabling classes to commence without delay.
With the commencement of this new school, the total number of Kendriya Vidyalayas in Delhi has increased to 47. The institution will not only provide quality and affordable education to local children but will also help ease admission pressures on other schools in North-East Delhi.
At present, these 47 KendriyaVidyalayas are serving more than 119,000 students across the national Capital.
Describing the occasion as historic for Karawal Nagar and the wider North-East Delhi region, the Chief Minister noted that the area had long faced a shortage of quality educational institutions and had until now depended on a single Kendriya Vidyalaya.
The establishment of the new school will ensure that children no longer have to travel long distances in pursuit of quality education and will help foster a stronger academic environment across the locality, she said.
The event was attended by Education Minister Ashish Sood, Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, senior officials of the Education Department and other distinguished guests.
Referring to the tenure of previous administrations, Rekha Gupta observed that the condition of schools in the region had once been deeply concerning.
Owing to a shortage of classrooms, students were required to attend on alternate days, and in some instances, two classes were conducted in a single room, adversely affecting learning outcomes.
She stated that under the coordinated efforts of the ‘triple-engine Government’, development works relating to education, roads, drinking water, sewerage, flyovers, foot overbridges, hospitals and other essential infrastructure are progressing at a pace, with visible benefits reaching citizens.
Expressing confidence in the long-term impact of the new institution, the Chief Minister said the KendriyaVidyalaya would provide education of national standards and lay a strong foundation for future generations.
She further highlighted that close coordination between the Central Government, the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation has accelerated development projects across the region. She also informed that the metro project in the Karawal Nagar area is expected to commence shortly.
Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Sood said the initiative represents not merely the inauguration of a school, but the beginning of comprehensive development in an area that had long struggled with inadequate educational infrastructure.
For years, students in North-East Delhi were compelled to travel 4-5 kilometres for schooling. The establishment of this second KendriyaVidyalaya after nearly 27 years reflects the Government’s firm commitment to expanding equitable access to quality education.
He expressed confidence that Delhi’s Government schools will, in the coming years, be equipped with world-class facilities, ensuring that children from ordinary families receive high-quality education within their own neighbourhoods.
Cabinet Minister and Karawal Nagar MLA Kapil Mishra stated that under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, Karawal Nagar is witnessing an unprecedented phase of development. He described the KendriyaVidyalaya as a major achievement for the region.
Over the past 15-20 years, development in Trans-Yamuna had slowed considerably, and North-East Delhi had lagged behind. He added that within the first year of the present Government, the Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board was reconstituted and development works worth Rs 728 crore were approved, alongside projects exceeding Rs 300 crore for the Karawal Nagar Assembly constituency. Long-standing aspirations such as the Delhi Metro extension and the Dehradun Expressway are now progressing towards reality.
