CM Rekha distributes laptops to 1,200 students

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday distributed laptops to 1,200 top-ranking students and honoured athletes at ‘Yashotsav 2026’, underlining the government’s push to strengthen education and sports in the national Capital.
The valedictory ceremony, held at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, brought together thousands of students, teachers, and athletes.
Along with the laptop distribution, 222 high-achieving students from Classes 10 and 12 and 34 top-performing schools were also felicitated. Winners of the Delhi Khel Mahakumbh 2025-26 were honoured at the event.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the programme celebrates the dedication of students and the support system behind them. “This is not merely an award ceremony but a celebration of discipline, hard work, and success,” she said.
She stressed that the Government is committed to providing equal opportunities in both education and sports. “Our aim is to ensure that every young person gets the right platform to realise their aspirations,” she said.
Highlighting infrastructure improvements, the Chief Minister said nearly 9,000 classrooms have been equipped with smart boards in the 2025-26 period.
She added that computer labs have been set up in 275 schools, while digital libraries have been introduced in 100 schools.
The Chief Minister said the government is working to make schools fully equipped with modern facilities such as smart classrooms, language labs, and updated libraries. “We are building a digital learning ecosystem so that students can compete at national and global levels,” she said.
Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, she said it has made the system more inclusive and future-ready. She added that initiatives like laptop distribution will help students engage with technology and expand their learning opportunities.
On sports, the Chief Minister said the Delhi Khel Mahakumbh has created opportunities for over 25,000 athletes. She said the event has helped promote a sporting culture and identify talent across the city.
The Chief Minister said financial support is also being extended to athletes. Under the Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana, Rs 50 crore has been released so far, including Rs 15 crore in the latest tranche, to support training and resources.
Education Minister Ashish Sood, who was also present, said the government’s budget reflects its commitment to education. He noted that out of the Rs 1.03 lakh crore budget, nearly Rs 19,000 crore has been allocated to the education sector. “Education and sports are not tools of politics, but pillars of nation-building,” Sood said.
