CM Rekha calls for tech-driven farming at IARI Foundation Day

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday stressed the need for integrating technology with agriculture to achieve the vision of a developed India, while addressing the 122nd Foundation Day celebrations of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI).
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, the Chief Minister said that the future of India depends on strong agriculture backed by scientific innovation. She praised the role of agricultural scientists and said institutions like IARI have been central in strengthening food security and supporting farmers.
“The convergence of farming and technology is the foundation of a developed India,” the Chief Minister said, highlighting the role of precision farming, climate-smart agriculture, and artificial intelligence in modernising the sector.
She also announced that the Delhi Government will work closely with IARI to improve soil health and expand green cover in the city.
She added that scientific support will be crucial in promoting sustainable urban farming and environmental conservation.
During the event, the Chief Minister released two publications titled “Improved Crop Varieties for Food, Nutrition and Livelihood Security” and “Precision Floriculture and Landscape Design.” She also visited an exhibition showcasing new agricultural technologies and interacted with scientists.
She urged citizens and institutions to plant native trees such as peepal, neem, banyan, and mango. She further said that around 4,200 hectares of the Ridge area have been notified to expand green cover in Delhi.
