CM Rekha attacks Kejriwal over Sheesh Mahal

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched a sharp attack on former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the controversial ‘Sheesh Mahal’. She called it a “symbol of corruption and moral decline” and asserted that the truth is now in the public domain.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came after a video related to the bungalow surfaced, triggering fresh political confrontation in the national capital. She said the visuals expose a clear gap between promises made to the public and actions taken in office.
“The truth can no longer be hidden. What people are seeing now is not just a building but proof of corruption, arrogance, and betrayal of public trust,” she said.
The Chief Minister alleged that leaders who rose to power in the name of the “Aam Aadmi” had built a luxurious residence using public funds. She said the video allows citizens to judge for themselves how government resources were used.
Referring to the scale of the project, the Chief Minister claimed that the cost of construction rose sharply over time. “The project was initially pegged at around Rs 8 crore, but it reportedly escalated to nearly Rs 62 crore. This raises serious questions about financial irregularities,” she said.
She also pointed to features shown in the video, alleging that the residence included high-end interiors and expensive installations. According to her, the property was equipped with around 50 air conditioners, multiple fans, imported appliances, coffee machines, and other luxury amenities.
The Chief Minister further alleged that several private consultants were engaged for different aspects of the project, which contributed to the rising cost. She said such decisions reflected a disregard for rules and financial discipline. Calling the episode a “dark chapter” in Delhi’s governance, the Chief Minister said the timing of the expenditure was particularly concerning. “At a time when citizens were dealing with a pandemic and economic hardship, such spending reflects misplaced priorities,” she said.
She also referred to earlier claims of simplicity made by leaders, saying the lifestyle reflected in the video did not match those assurances. “Those who once said they would not take official cars or bungalows have built something far removed from the life of an ordinary citizen,” she said.
The Chief Minister appealed directly to the public to view the video and form their own opinion. “People have every right to know how their money was used. Let them see and judge for themselves,” she said. She said her government has already initiated steps to examine the matter.
She confirmed that a detailed probe is underway and will be conducted through the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
