CM Rekha announces Rs 10 lakh ex gratia for victims’ families

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta have expressed deep sorrow over the devastating fire that broke out in a multi-storey residential building in the Palam area of West Delhi.
The Chief Minister has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the families of adult deceased persons and Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of those who were minors and died in the Palam fire incident. The Lt Governor, while chairing his first Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting, directed a comprehensive fire audit across the city. In a post on X, the LG office said, “Discussed today’s unfortunate residential fire incident; directed a comprehensive fire audit across localities and institutions to strengthen prevention.”
Calling the loss of innocent lives in the incident ‘heartbreaking,’ the chief minister extended her heartfelt condolences to the affected families.
The Chief Minister has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident to determine the cause of the fire. She also announced financial assistance for the victims’ families.
Gupta said the Delhi government stands firmly with the affected families in this difficult time. She prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for the bereaved families to cope with the irreparable loss.
Announcing compensation, the Chief Minister said that the families of deceased adults will receive Rs 10 lakh each, while families of deceased minors will be given Rs 5 lakh. Those seriously injured in the incident will receive immediate assistance of Rs 2 lakh.
“Deeply saddened by the tragic fire incident in Palam. The loss of innocent lives is heartbreaking. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to their loved ones to bear this irreparable loss. The Delhi Government stands firmly with the affected families and will ensure all possible support. Financial assistance is being provided as follows: Rs 10 lakh each to the families of deceased adults, Rs 5 lakh each to the families of deceased minors, and Rs 2 lakh each to the seriously injured. We are committed to ensuring relief, support and all necessary assistance in this difficult time,” she tweeted.
