CM participates in mega blood donation camp

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday participated in a mega blood donation camp organised at Thyagaraj Stadium on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. More than 1,000 people registered for the camp, and over 900 units of blood were collected in the camp.
There is a strong public participation in the cause despite adverse weather conditions. It is one of the largest voluntary blood donation drives organised by the Delhi Government in recent months.
The Chief Minister interacted with blood donors, boosted their morale and thanked them for coming forward for what she described as a noble cause. She said donating blood on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary was a meaningful tribute to his ideals of patriotism, sacrifice and service to the nation.
Delhi Health Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, officials from the Health Department, representatives of voluntary organisations and a large number of citizens were present at the event.
The Chief Minister said the overwhelming response reflected the spirit of Delhiites and their respect for the country’s great freedom fighters.
She noted that even rainfall and unfavourable weather conditions failed to dampen public enthusiasm. “On a simple appeal by the Government, people turned up in large numbers. This shows the deep sense of national duty and social responsibility among citizens,” she said.
The Chief Minister presented donor kits and certificates to all blood donors. The kits included a jute bag, coffee mug, T-shirt, cap and a donor badge. Officials said the gesture was aimed at recognising voluntary donors and encouraging more people to participate in such life-saving initiatives in the future.
The Chief Minister said the blood donation drive was organised with the resolve that “every drop of blood is for the nation”. She added that such initiatives not only help save lives but also strengthen the healthcare system by ensuring the availability of blood for patients in need, especially during emergencies.
Alongside the blood donation camp, the Delhi Government also distributed helmets under a road safety awareness campaign. Chief Minister said saving lives was not limited to hospitals alone and that safe behaviour on roads was equally critical. “The objective of distributing helmets is to sensitise people, particularly the youth, about traffic rules and the importance of road safety. Preventing accidents is also a form of public service,” she said.
The Chief Minister commended the Health Department, doctors, nursing staff, volunteers and all personnel involved in organising the camp. She said the Delhi Government remained committed to strengthening healthcare services and ensuring that essential resources such as blood were readily available to those in need.
Health Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh described the blood donation camp as a symbol of patriotism and service. He said the enthusiasm shown by citizens, especially the youth, was inspiring and reflected a strong sense of responsibility towards society.
