CM launches water ATMs in Shalimar Bagh

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday inaugurated a network of water ATMs in Shalimar Bagh, aimed at improving access to safe drinking water in densely populated areas of the Capital.
The facilities, equipped with five-stage RO systems, can supply up to 2,000 litres of purified water per hour. Officials said the initiative is designed to provide affordable and reliable drinking water to residents, especially in areas facing supply challenges.
The Chief Minister said ensuring clean drinking water for every household remains a key priority.
“These water ATMs are an important step towards making safe water accessible to all,” she said while interacting with residents.
The units have been installed at multiple locations, including the AU Block at Ekta Camp in Pitampura, Som Bazar Road in Haiderpur, AA Seva Basti near Fortis Hospital, and CA Block Seva Basti. During the visit, the Chief Minister also distributed water ATM cards to local residents to enable easy access to the service.
Officials said the system will help reduce dependence on irregular water supply and improve overall public health standards in high-density neighbourhoods.
Highlighting broader efforts, the Chief Minister said the Government has planned large-scale upgrades to the city’s water infrastructure. Nearly Rs 9,000 crore has been allocated for laying new pipelines, replacing old networks, and strengthening distribution systems.
She also inspected ongoing development work on Som Bazar Road in Haiderpur, where road construction and related civic works are underway. Officials briefed her on the progress of projects being carried out by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and other agencies.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister directed officials to speed up construction work while maintaining quality standards.
She stressed the need to minimise inconvenience to residents and ensure proper traffic management at work sites.
The Chief Minister also emphasised cleanliness and safety during construction. She said strict adherence to safety norms and proper site management must be ensured at all times. Later, the Chief Minister visited the CA Block to review the cleaning work of the Munak Canal and inspect the construction of a Chhath ghat. She sought updates from officials and issued directions for the timely completion of both projects.
Officials were told to ensure that the work meets quality standards and is completed within the set timeline. The Chief Minister said the projects must be ready well before Chhath Puja to avoid inconvenience to devotees.
She noted that proper infrastructure for religious and cultural events is an important responsibility of the government. Clean and well-maintained facilities are essential for public convenience and safety, she added.
The Chief Minister said the government is working with a focus on improving basic services across the city.
