CM inaugurates advanced medical facilities at GB Pant Hospital

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday inaugurated a set of advanced medical facilities at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital. The new additions include North India's first 256-slice spectral CT scanner installed in a government hospital, a state-of-the-art cath lab, and a modern neuro intensive care unit (ICU) with an integrated operation theatre complex.
Officials said the facilities are expected to significantly strengthen the hospital's capacity to diagnose and treat complex conditions such as cancer, cardiac ailments, stroke and neurological disorders while reducing waiting time for patients seeking specialised care. The Chief Minister said the new infrastructure would benefit not only residents of Delhi but also patients from neighbouring states who depend on the city's Government hospitals for advanced treatment.
She said the Delhi government is focused on improving both the quality and accessibility of healthcare so that cutting-edge medical technology is available to all sections of society, irrespective of income.
The highlight of the expansion is the 256-slice spectral CT scanner, the first of its kind in a government hospital in North India. The machine will enable faster and more accurate diagnosis across a wide range of conditions, including cancer detection, cardiac imaging, stroke assessment, neurological disorders and angiography-related diseases. Hospital officials said the technology allows clinicians to take clearer images at lower radiation doses, improving patient safety while enhancing diagnostic precision.
In addition, a Philips Azurion monoplane Neuro Cath Lab has been commissioned to support advanced interventional treatment of neurovascular conditions such as stroke, brain aneurysms and brain tumours.
The Cath Lab is expected to play a crucial role in emergency interventions, particularly in time-sensitive stroke cases where rapid treatment can significantly improve outcomes. The existing Neuro ICU at GB Pant Hospital has also been renovated and upgraded into a 16-bed modern facility, complete with advanced patient monitoring systems and specialised critical care infrastructure. An operation theatre complex has been integrated with the ICU to ensure seamless pre-operative and post-operative care for neurological patients.
The Chief Minister said strengthening public hospitals with modern infrastructure and specialised services is essential to ensure that quality healthcare does not remain limited to private institutions. Delhi Health Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, who was present at the event, said the commissioning of the new CT scanner, Neuro Cath Lab and upgraded Neuro ICU would substantially enhance GB Pant Hospital's ability to manage complex neurological and diagnostic cases. He said the facilities would help reduce long waiting lists and enable timely intervention in critical conditions, particularly strokes and other neurovascular emergencies.
According to officials, the 256-slice spectral CT scanner has been installed at a cost of around Rs 20 crore.
It features “always-on” spectral imaging technology, which provides high-resolution images and rapid diagnostic results across cardiac, oncological, neurological and vascular evaluations.
