CM Himanta reviews industrial projects in Morigaon, visits Zubeen Khetra memorial site

Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Tuesday, visited multiple project sites in Assam’s Morigaon district to review the progress of key industrial and infrastructure initiatives aimed at transforming the state into a major industrial hub.
During the visit, the Chief Minister inspected the proposed Mega Industrial Park project spread across 1,067 bighas of land in the Sipiri-Duruladubi revenue villages under the Jagiroad constituency. The project is being developed as part of the state Government’s broader push to strengthen industrial growth and generate employment opportunities in Assam.
Dr. Sarma also visited Ahatguri in Morigaon district and reviewed more than 331 bighas of reserved Government land at Borbori, which has been earmarked for establishing various Government institutions and related infrastructure facilities.
The Chief Minister interacted with local residents during the inspection and directed officials to ensure timely implementation of the proposed projects. Local MLA Pijush Hazarika, Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and senior officials from concerned departments accompanied him during the visit.
A major highlight of the tour was Dr. Sarma’s inspection of the proposed Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test project site at Jagiroad. The semiconductor facility is expected to play a significant role in boosting Assam’s economy and creating large-scale employment opportunities in the region.
Senior company officials, including Project Director Ashish Mishra, briefed the Chief Minister on the status of the project. Dr Sarma instructed officials to ensure fast and efficient execution of construction activities to keep the project on schedule.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister visited Zubeen Khetra at Komarkuchi in Sonapur, Kamrup Metropolitan district, where he paid tribute to late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg by lighting a ceremonial lamp at the memorial site.
He reviewed the progress of the memorial construction work and inspected the surrounding areas. The Assam Government plans to develop Zubeen Khetra into a culturally significant memorial and inspirational centre for future generations.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that construction of the boundary wall has already begun at an estimated cost of around Rs 3 crore as part of the project’s first phase. Measures to prevent soil erosion in the surrounding areas have also been initiated. Dr Sarma directed officials to expedite the next phase of the project.
During his visit to Morigaon district, the Chief Minister also offered prayers at the historic Gobha Deoraja Charibhai Deosal Shiva Temple for the welfare, peace and prosperity of the people of Assam.
The visits underline the Assam Government’s continued focus on industrial development, infrastructure expansion and cultural preservation across the state.
