CM gives Rs 1 cr each to families of COVID-19 warriors

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday handed over financial assistance of Rs 1 crore each to the families of six government employees who died while performing duty during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cheques were distributed at a programme held at the Delhi Secretariat. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the assistance was not just a formal exercise but a gesture of gratitude and respect for those who risked their lives during the crisis. She said these individuals continued to serve the public despite fear and uncertainty, placing duty above personal safety.
The Chief Minister met the bereaved families and listened to their concerns. She said the sacrifice of the deceased employees would never be forgotten and described them as heroes for both their families and society. She assured them that the Delhi Government would continue to stand by them and provide necessary support.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged delays faced by families in receiving compensation in the past. She said many cases were held up due to procedural issues during the previous government’s tenure.
The beneficiaries belonged to various government bodies, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Delhi Transport Corporation, Delhi Jal Board, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, New Delhi Municipal Council, and Maulana Azad Medical College.
These employees played critical roles during the pandemic. Paramedical staff worked in hospitals and testing centres, while personnel from other departments ensured essential services such as water supply, sanitation, and public transport continued during lockdowns.
In addition to these six families, the Chief Minister also handed over Rs 1 crore to the family of late Assistant Sub-Inspector Radhey Shyam of the Delhi Police traffic unit, who died in the line of duty.
