Cloudburst triggers flash floods, cuts off villages in J&K's Doda

Several villages in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district were cut off after cloudbursts triggered flash floods in the remote Bhalessa region on Wednesday. The cloudbursts struck the Kalalgisar and Seru areas following heavy rainfall, sending large amounts of debris and mud onto roads and disrupting connectivity to nearby villages.
Officials said there were no reports of casualties, but the flash floods blocked key roads and hampered movement in the affected areas. Local authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel as continuous rainfall has increased the risk of landslides and further road blockages.
Restoration work will begin once weather conditions improve and it is safe for machinery to access the affected stretches.
The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and assessing damage to infrastructure and public property.
Emergency teams remain on alert as the India Meteorological Department has forecast more rainfall across parts of the Himalayan region. The incident highlights the vulnerability of mountainous areas to extreme weather events during the monsoon season and the need for caution in landslide-prone zones.
