China Earthquake kills 2, thousands evacuated

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck southwest China’s Guangxi region early Monday, killing two people and forcing more than 7,000 residents to evacuate from affected areas.
According to Chinese state media, the earthquake hit near the city of Liuzhou, where rescue and search operations are currently underway. Authorities confirmed two deaths, while one person remains missing.
At least four people were hospitalised following the quake, though officials said none of the injuries were life-threatening.
The earthquake also caused significant structural damage, with 13 buildings reportedly collapsing in the affected region. Rescue teams have been deployed to assess damage and assist residents.
Railway authorities warned of possible transport disruptions as inspections of railway tracks and other infrastructure continue following the tremor.
Despite the impact of the earthquake, officials said communication networks, electricity supply, water services, gas pipelines and traffic operations in the area were functioning normally.
Authorities are continuing rescue efforts while monitoring the region for possible aftershocks.
