CEO booked over intern’s harassment complaint

Delhi Police has registered a case against the chief executive officer of a private company in South Delhi after a former intern accused him of sexual harassment, intimidation, and abuse of authority during her time with the firm, officials said on Friday.
The FIR was lodged following a complaint filed by the woman, who alleged that she faced repeated misconduct and mental harassment while working as an intern at the company.
According to police, the complainant accused the CEO of inappropriate behaviour and creating what she described as a hostile and unsafe work environment during her internship period. She also alleged that she was subjected to intimidation after resisting the conduct.
Police officials said the woman approached authorities after repeated incidents allegedly left her distressed and under pressure. An officer associated with the investigation said a case had been registered and statements of people connected to the matter were being recorded. The police have not disclosed the name of the accused company executive or the firm involved.
Investigators are currently examining the allegations and verifying the sequence of events mentioned in the complaint. Police said all facts and circumstances related to the accusations are being looked into as part of the inquiry. Officials did not immediately provide details regarding the sections under which the FIR was registered. They also did not specify the duration of the woman’s internship or when the alleged incidents took place.
The complaint has once again brought attention to concerns surrounding workplace conduct and the vulnerability of interns and junior employees in corporate environments, particularly when allegations involve senior management officials. Police sources said investigators may examine workplace communication records and interactions between the complainant and the accused as part of the probe. Statements from employees and other persons associated with the company are also expected to be recorded.
The case is being handled by Delhi Police officers from the concerned district, and further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation. Sexual harassment complaints at workplaces are governed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and also under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, which mandates internal complaint mechanisms in organisations.
Officials said police were proceeding according to legal procedure and ensuring that all claims made by the complainant were examined carefully.
The incident comes amid increasing reporting of workplace harassment complaints across corporate and professional sectors in metropolitan cities, where interns and contractual employees often work in temporary or dependent roles.
Police said no arrests had been made so far in the case. The complainant’s identity has not been disclosed in keeping with legal protections available to women alleging sexual harassment. Officials said the investigation was continuing and further details would emerge after statements and evidence were examined.
