Centre notifies transfer of Justice Lisa Gill to Andhra Pradesh HC

The Central Government has notified the transfer of Justice Lisa Gill from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to the Andhra Pradesh High Court. She will be soon elevated as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh after the incumbent retires.
“In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, has transferred Ms Justice Lisa Gill, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana, to be a Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. I convey my best wishes to her,” Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said in a post in X. The Supreme Court Collegium recommended her transfer last week in anticipation of the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh HC. Her appointment of the CJ of the Andhra Pradesh HC will take effect from the date when the vacancy arises.
The Collegium’s decision was as per its newly adopted policy for early transfers of prospective Chief Justices, at least two months ahead of the retirement of the incumbent, so that the new Judge can familiarise with the High Court.
