CBSE rejects claims of flawed OSM checking system in Class 12 exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday rejected reports alleging that answer sheets under its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system were improperly scanned due to inadequate preparation and time constraints, calling the claims "factually incorrect".
In a post on X, the board said every stage of the OSM process, including scanning, quality checks, marking and evaluation, was conducted according to established procedures and under constant supervision.
"A claim is circulating in the media that the scanning of answer books under OSM was not carried out properly due to inadequate preparation and paucity of time. This claim is factually incorrect," the board said.
The board asserted that it remained committed to ensuring fairness, transparency and integrity in the examination and evaluation process. It also urged students and parents to rely only on official sources for verified information regarding examinations and results.
This year marked the first time CBSE implemented full-scale evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets through the On-Screen Marking system, a digital evaluation process aimed at streamlining assessment and improving transparency.
This clarification comes after students and parents pointed out harsh marking in the board exams in certain subjects and alleged that the new evaluation system completely failed to check the students’ answer sheets. They alleged lapses in scanning and evaluation procedures.
The clarification comes a week after CBSE announced the Class 12 board examination results on May 13.
