CBSE Clarifies Class 12 Result 2026 Row, Revaluation Starts May 19

The Central Board of Secondary Education has issued an official clarification regarding the controversy surrounding the Class 12 Result 2026 and concerns raised over the On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system.
The clarification comes after several students, parents and teachers questioned the marking process on social media, alleging unexpectedly low scores in subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Some students also claimed they had qualified competitive examinations like JEE but failed in the CBSE board exams.
Defending the digital evaluation process, CBSE stated that the OSM system was introduced to ensure greater transparency, fairness and consistency in marking. According to the board, the system allows evaluators to award step-wise marks accurately while reducing the possibility of manual errors during assessment.
This year, the CBSE Class 12 pass percentage dropped to 85.2 per cent, marking the lowest performance recorded in the last seven years. The board reiterated that students are required to secure at least 33 per cent marks separately in theory and practical examinations to pass a subject.
CBSE also announced that the Class 12 revaluation process will begin from May 19, 2026. Students dissatisfied with their scores will first need to apply for photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets. After reviewing them, they can apply for verification of marks or re-evaluation of specific answers.
The board said candidates must complete the process within the prescribed deadlines and pay the required fees. It also assured students that corrective action would be taken if any discrepancies are identified during re-evaluation.
Additionally, CBSE clarified that students failing in one subject may still be eligible to appear for compartment examinations if they fulfil the required conditions under the board’s examination rules.
