CBI SIT visits RG Kar hospital to revisit probe into trainee doctor rape-murder

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CBI visited the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital here to re-examine different aspects of its investigation into the rape and murder of a trainee medico two years ago, sources said.
In May this year, the Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered the setting up of an SIT of the CBI to probe the developments from the time the trainee doctor had dinner on the night of August 9, 2024, to her cremation. The post-graduate trainee doctor’s raped and murder in the hospital had caused an uproar in the state as well as among the medical community across the country.
On Monday, the five-member probe team inspected different parts of the hospital, including the emergency department, to re-examine different aspects of the investigation, a source in the national probe agency said.
Last week, the CBI submitted a status report before a local court, informing it that the probe was still underway and more time was required to complete the investigation.
The investigation is now being led by Sandipani Garg, who recently took charge of the SIT. He appeared before the Sealdah court on July 30 as the new investigating officer and briefly interacted with the victim’s mother, urging her to have faith in the investigation.
