Capital scores above national average in CBSE class 12 results

Delhi recorded a strong performance in the CBSE Class 12 board examinations this year, with both Delhi East and Delhi West regions scoring well above the national average despite an overall decline in results across the country.
The Central Board of Secondary Education declared the Class 12 results on Wednesday, reporting an overall national pass percentage of 85.20 per cent. In comparison, Delhi West recorded a pass percentage of 92.34 per cent while Delhi East stood at 91.73 per cent, placing both regions among the better-performing CBSE zones in the country.
Chiefly driven by strong performances from girls, Delhi schools maintained their position among the top-performing urban regions even as CBSE saw a drop of over three percentage points in the national pass rate compared to last year. Girls once again outperformed boys in the board examinations. Nationally, girls recorded a pass percentage of 88.86 per cent, while boys stood at 82.13 per cent. CBSE also reported a 100 per cent pass percentage among transgender candidates.
School principals and teachers in Delhi said the city’s consistent performance reflected strong academic preparation and improved digital learning support across schools. However, many also noted that students found this year’s evaluation stricter compared to previous years.
The CBSE results showed that while Delhi remained ahead of the national average, southern regions continued to dominate the rankings. Trivandrum emerged as the best-performing region with a pass percentage of 95.62 per cent, followed by Chennai and Bengaluru. Delhi West secured a place among the top five performing regions in the country.
This year, more than 18.5 lakh students had registered for the CBSE Class 12 examinations across the country. According to CBSE data, over 15 lakh students cleared the exams successfully.
The board stated that more than 94,000 students scored above 90 per cent, while over 17,000 candidates crossed the 95 per cent mark nationally. Among the top performers in the Capital, DPS Dwarka reported the highest individual score. Teghnoor Singh secured 99.4 per cent in the Commerce stream. In the same school, Upraj Bedi scored 97.8 per cent in Science, while Samajya Singh and Aarna Arora obtained 97 per cent each in Humanities. At DPS Vasant Kunj, Vivaan Sharma emerged as the Science topper with 98.6 per cent. Devina Gahlot secured 98 per cent in Humanities, while Anushri Tewari scored 96.4 per cent in Commerce.
Students of ITL International School in Dwarka also recorded high scores across streams. Priyansh Mehra scored 98.25 per cent in Science. Viraj Kathuria and Akshat Shah secured 98.25 per cent each in Commerce, while Venus Sharma topped Humanities with 97.5 per cent. At Tagore International School, East of Kailash, Zaina secured 97.25 per cent in Science. Unnati Golani scored 96.75 per cent in Humanities, while Ayush Khanna obtained 96.5 per cent in Commerce.
Education experts said the shift to On-Screen Marking for the Class 12 answer sheet evaluation may have contributed to tighter assessment standards. This year was the first time CBSE implemented full-scale digital evaluation for Class 12 examinations. Under the new system, scanned copies of answer sheets were assessed digitally instead of through physical copies. School principals in Delhi said students performed well despite a stricter evaluation pattern this year. Teachers noted that many students initially expected lower marks because of tighter checking standards in subjects such as Physics and Mathematics.
Educationists in Delhi said that despite the nationwide decline in pass percentage, the Capital’s strong regional performance reflected stable academic standards and better institutional support systems across schools.
