Capital on alert after Noida workers’ protest turns violent

In order to maintain law and order in the national Capital, the Delhi Police placed its rank and file on high alert and took several proactive security measures to prevent any spill over of the violent factory workers’ protest that erupted in the neighbouring Noida on Monday.
It began with factory workers, mainly from the Hosiery Complex in Noida Phase-2 and Sector 60, protesting for a wage hike and better working conditions. The demonstration turned violent with stone-pelting, arson and setting vehicles on fire, vandalism and road blockades, causing massive traffic chaos on routes like NH-9 and near the Delhi-Noida border.
Delhi Police immediately implemented the steps and adequate police force was deployed at all strategic locations. Multiple police teams were stationed at all motorable roads connecting Noida to Delhi, with special focus on major Uttar Pradesh-Delhi border points.
Intensified barricading and checks: Barricades were strengthened at key entry points. Vehicles were subjected to thorough inspection to prevent anti-social elements from entering Delhi under the pretext of the protest.
Additional personnel, rapid response teams, and paramilitary forces were positioned for swift action in case of any incident.
A traffic advisory was issued by the Traffic Police advising m motorists and a close coordination was maintained with Uttar Pradesh Police to monitor the situation in real time. When asked, a senior Delhi Police officer said: “No one will be allowed to breach law and order.”
These measures were specifically aimed at preventing any repeat of the Noida violence inside Delhi.
