Capital emerging as creative, media hub: Mishra

Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra on Saturday said the national Capital is steadily emerging as a creative and media hub as he visited the International Film Festival of Delhi (IFFD) at Bharat Mandapam and reviewed a major exhibition tracing the journey of Indian cinema.
The Minister said the festival has attracted participation from filmmakers, artists, and young talent from across the country, positioning Delhi as a growing centre for cinema, culture, and media engagement.
During his visit, Mishra explored an exhibition that presents the evolution of Indian cinema from its early years to the present day. The exhibition also highlights the global reach of Indian films and their role as a cultural soft power.
Curated by art collector Neville Tuli of TRIS, the exhibition is divided into 12 thematic sections. It showcases the works and contributions of legendary artists across generations. It also presents insights into both Indian and global cinema, including their achievements and challenges over time.
“The exhibition is a significant step towards establishing Delhi as a global hub for cinema and cultural research,” Mishra said. He added that it creates a platform where cinema, education, and culture come together, while also strengthening dialogue between the Indian and international film industries.
The Minister interacted with visitors, including students and cinema enthusiasts, and gathered feedback on the festival. He noted that IFFD is witnessing strong engagement and is currently at its peak, with active participation from youth and industry professionals.
Mishra said the festival is not only a celebration of cinema but also a platform for nurturing talent.
He highlighted that masterclasses, workshops, and script pitching sessions are being organised as part of the event, offering opportunities for young filmmakers and artists to learn and showcase their work.
He further said that Delhi is moving beyond its identity as an administrative capital and is developing into a hub for the creative and entertainment industries.
Efforts are being made in collaboration with the Delhi Government, Government of India and Prasar Bharati to strengthen media and technology infrastructure in the city. An MoU has also been signed in this regard.
Referring to upcoming events, Mishra said a special “Night of Honours” will be held on March 30. The event will feature a live performance by internationally acclaimed composer Ricky Kej, which is expected to be a major attraction.
