Bringing responsible AI education to schools
As technology has evolved and made artificial intelligence an integral part of classrooms and our everyday lives, many educators are confronted with the pressing challenge of ensuring that the younger generation learns to use AI responsibly without becoming overly dependent on it.
The Humain AI Literacy Mission (HAILM), which was recently launched at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, aims to address this challenge. HAILM introduces a holistic approach to AI literacy and prepares India’s education ecosystem for the age of artificial intelligence with a human-centric approach.
It offers an age-appropriate curriculum for Grades 3 to 12. This includes live sessions, an LMS, video lessons, interactive activities and classroom-ready learning materials. The programme helps schools adopt AI education systematically, with its foundational-level learning available for free.
By introducing AI as a general-purpose learning tool, it prioritises application over rote learning, encouraging learners not just to use AI but to think critically with it. However, despite the rise of artificial intelligence, education is incomplete without a human touch. To ensure AI is used ethically, teachers should act as mentors who motivate students, nurture ethical values and ensure accountability, while AI supports personalised learning by helping students identify and strengthen their weak areas. Our vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 can only emerge when the next generation of students and learners not only use and understand new technologies but also help shape them responsibly. To support this vision, HAILM acts as a structured pathway that will democratise access to AI education across India.
