Bomb threat email to Mayor’s office triggers security sweep

A bomb threat email targeting the Delhi Mayor’s office triggered a major security alert at the Civic Centre on Wednesday, prompting an immediate search operation by police and bomb detection teams. However, the officials informed that no suspicious object was found during the inspection.
The threatening email claimed that an explosion would take place at the mayor’s office at 2.11 pm. It contained alarming messages and references to extremist elements, including mention of “Khalistan National Army.”
Authorities said the email included provocative and vague statements, such as “Delhi Banayga Khalistan”, “Bomb Dhamaka yan”, and “Gaddi Aatmaghati Hamla”, raising concerns about a potential threat. It also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are enemies of Khalistan.
Soon after the email was received, local police rushed to the Civic Centre along with the bomb disposal squad and dog squad. A thorough search of the premises was conducted to ensure safety. Officials confirmed that the entire building was thoroughly checked. “No suspicious item or activity was detected during the search operation, and the premises have been declared safe,” a police officer said.
Despite the threat turning out to be a hoax, security measures at the Civic Centre have been tightened. Entry into the building is now being strictly regulated, with verification checks in place for all visitors. Police said surveillance systems are being closely monitored. CCTV cameras installed on and around the premises are constantly monitored to detect any unusual activity.
Security personnel deployed at the Civic Centre have been instructed to remain alert. Staff members have also been advised to report any suspicious movement or object to authorities without delay.
Officials said the response to the threat was swift and coordinated. The quick deployment of security teams ensured that there was no panic and that the situation remained under control.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over hoax threat emails being sent to public institutions. Authorities said such threats, even if false, require a full-scale response to rule out any risk. Police have initiated an investigation to trace the origin of the email. Efforts are underway to identify the sender and determine whether the threat is linked to any larger pattern.
Cyber experts are expected to examine technical details of the email, including its source and routing, to track down those responsible. Officials said strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in issuing such threats, as they create panic and strain security resources.
The Civic Centre, which houses key offices of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, remained operational during the security checks, though movement inside the building was regulated. Authorities reiterated that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of public officials and staff. They added that vigilance will continue in the coming days.
Police said the situation is fully under control and there is no cause for alarm. However, they stressed the importance of remaining cautious and reporting any suspicious activity.
The incident highlights the ongoing challenge posed by threat messages and the need for strong coordination between law enforcement and civic authorities to maintain public safety.
