BJP workers detained after protest at Congress HQ

Thousands of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged a protest outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi on Saturday. The protesters alleged that the Congress disrupted the recent AI Summit 2026 and damaged India’s image on an international platform. Several protesters, including Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, were detained by police after breaching barricades and were later released.
The demonstration was led by Sachdeva and coordinated by State Vice President and MLA Rajkumar Bhatia. According to party leaders, nearly 1,000 workers advanced past the second barricade during the protest. Delhi Police intervened, used force to stop the marchers and took them to Tughlak Road Police Station. They were released about an hour later with a warning.
The protest came a day after an incident at the AI Summit, where the BJP alleged that Congress workers created disruption at what it described as a major international event showcasing India’s achievements in artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
Addressing party workers at the protest site, Sachdeva said the AI Summit was a national event and not a BJP programme.
“Disrupting such a platform amounts to acting against the nation,” he said. He alleged that the Congress attempted to tarnish India’s image at a time when the country was presenting its innovation strength, startup ecosystem and digital transformation before global representatives.
Sachdeva raised slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” and accused the Congress of placing political interests above national interest. He said that when the world is recognising India’s technological progress, such actions reflect negative politics.
Former Delhi BJP president and MP Manoj Tiwari also addressed the gathering. He claimed that the incident at the AI Summit was not an ordinary protest but a sign of frustration within the Congress party.
He said representatives from more than 80 countries attended the summit and that it was an event of national importance.
Tiwari alleged that even before the police intervened at the summit venue, members of the public present had objected to the disruption. He said the Congress could not tolerate India’s growing global stature in the field of artificial intelligence and technology.
Several MPs, MLAs and municipal councillors were present at the protest. State office-bearers and district presidents of the party also joined the demonstration. The gathering remained largely peaceful until protesters pushed past barricades placed by the police.
The BJP leadership accused the Congress of attempting to defame India in international forums.
