BJP wins 3 of 4 Himachal civic bodies, Congress holds on to Palampur

The BJP secured a major victory in Himachal Pradesh’s municipal corporation elections, winning three of the four civic bodies where results were declared on Sunday.
The party retained control of Mandi Municipal Corporation and wrested Dharamshala and Solan from the Congress, while the ruling Congress managed to retain Palampur Municipal Corporation.
Polling for 63 seats across Mandi, Dharamshala, Solan, and Palampur was held on May 17.
The BJP won a total of 37 seats, while Congress secured 23 seats and Independents claimed three. In Mandi, BJP dominated with 12 seats, while it also won 11 seats each in Dharamshala and secured a majority in Solan.
Congress, however, registered a strong performance in Palampur, winning 11 of the 15 wards and retaining the civic body for a second consecutive term.
Party leaders described the result as an endorsement of their local governance and development agenda, while BJP leaders viewed their victories elsewhere as a positive sign ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
The results are being seen as an important political indicator in Himachal Pradesh, with both BJP and Congress likely to use the outcome to shape their strategies for future electoral battles in the state.
