BJP vs AAP: Political slugfest intensifies over fee hikes, student roll number

Amid a war of words over the fee hike issue at Apeejay School, Saket, the Delhi BJP said that the issue raised by Aam Aadmi Party leaders regarding the delay in issuing roll numbers to students appearing for CBSE examinations by Apeejay School, Saket, is in fact a product of the AAP’s own tenure in power.
The AAP leaders, however, have announced that he will personally visit the school in Saket to ensure that students whose roll numbers have been withheld are able to receive them without further delay. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has said that by raising the issue of a single school, AAP leaders are trying to portray the situation as if students appearing for board examinations in all private schools across Delhi are facing problems related to roll numbers. This issue pertains to the fee hike implemented by Apeejay School, Saket, during the Covid period in 2020.
Sachdeva said that even last year, at the behest of the outgoing Kejriwal-Atishi Government, the school withheld the roll numbers of board examination candidates, which were released only after the intervention of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The Delhi BJP President stated that the fee hike issue at Apeejay School has nothing to do with the present BJP Government and has been ongoing for nearly five years between some parents and the school administration.
He further said that the new education law of the Delhi Government is so strict that not only APJ School in Saket but also no private school will be able to withhold the roll numbers of CBSE board examination candidates, and parents can be assured that all students will appear in the board examinations. Sachdeva said that AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj should clarify what action his AAP Government-especially the then Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi-took in the APJ School fee hike matter over the past five years.
Meanwhile, sharing this update on Sunday via social media platform X, the AAP Delhi Unit Chief urged parents not to panic and assured them that he would reach the school at 1:00 PM on Monday to facilitate the immediate issuance of the students’ roll numbers.
He said the BJP Government and private schools would not be allowed to indulge in hooliganism, stating that with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams starting Tuesday, Apeejay School has withheld students’ roll numbers and is blackmailing parents into paying arbitrarily increased fees.
