BJP urges rollback of Rs 5 fuel cess in Himachal

The BJP on Tuesday asked the Congress Government in Himachal Pradesh to roll back the Rs 5 cess on fuel, calling the measure “anti-common man”, and alleged that it will extract over Rs 1,000 crore annually from the public through increased VAT and the additional cess.

Referring to the Congress’s pre-poll promises of financial doles, the saffron party also attacked Rahul Gandhi, saying his “khatakhat model” of governance has burdened the common people with repeated tax hikes. The party claimed the new cess will directly impact every household already struggling with rising costs.
