Bihar DISCOMs shine in national power rankings

In a significant boost to Bihar’s infrastructure credentials, the State’s power distribution sector has recorded a stellar performance in the latest national assessments released by the Union Ministry of Power and REC Limited. North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) has secured a prestigious ‘A’ rating in the Consumer Service Rating of DISCOMs (CSRD), emerging among the top five state-owned utilities in the country.
The Distribution Utilities Ranking (DUR) Report further highlighted the State’s progress, placing NBPDCL in the top five and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) at the 13th spot nationally. These rankings reflect a robust structural transformation, driven by improved billing efficiency, reduced AT&C losses, and the aggressive roll-out of smart prepaid meters.
Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav hailed the achievement, stating it underscores the Government’s commitment to providing reliable and affordable power. Manoj Kumar Singh, Energy Secretary and CMD of BSPHCL, attributed the success to technology-driven reforms and enhanced grievance redressal mechanisms.
The assessment evaluated 66 utilities on parameters including operational reliability and financial sustainability. With a continued focus on digitalisation, Bihar’s DISCOMs are now positioned as national benchmarks in consumer-centric service delivery.
