Beyond BRICS diplomacy, a quiet gesture of gratitude in Delhi wins hearts
Expressing gratitude and thanking a person you met for a brief while underlines humility and dignity. Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan exemplified it during his recent visit to New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit. Him shaking hands with his Indian chauffeur before departing has won hearts and has created a buzz on social media.
The video showing the crown prince thanking the driver who drove him to the airport before he left New Delhi is now a sensation.
In the now-viral clip, the crown prince is seen stepping out of his car at the airport and greeting dignitaries as he prepared to leave and moving towards the aircraft. However, just as he appeared ready to leave, he turned around and walked back to the vehicle. He then shook hands with the chauffeur and spoke to him briefly before leaving.
This gesture has drawn attention, with users praising Sheikh Khaled for taking a moment to personally acknowledge the driver.
Comments like " The Crown Prince proves real “class” and “Whoever is humble to God, He raises him. Humility is a noble trait whose value is only known by the most pious of God’s servants,” flooded the internet. Another comment, “That is the definition of a rich person, while some struggle proving it with material wealth!” also caught the attention.
Sheikh Khaled was in the national capital to represent UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the BRICS summit.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled held bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The talks covered energy supplies, trade, artificial intelligence, financial cooperation, education and tourism.
The discussions also addressed regional security concerns amid the West Asia crisis, the safety of Indian seafarers and the UAE’s participation in the BRICS framework.
The 18th BRICS Summit brought together 13 world leaders and 17 delegations in New Delhi. During the summit, PM Modi held bilateral meetings with several global leaders.
PM Modi described India-UAE ties as a symbol of “stability, prosperity and peace” at a time of uncertainty in West Asia. The two sides also explored ways to increase investments by Emirati entities.
The crown prince’s farewell gesture has now added a more personal moment to a visit otherwise marked by high-level diplomatic meetings.
