Begusarai woman found dead in Muzaffarpur hotel a day after complaint against husband, in-laws

A 25-year-old woman from Bihar’s Begusarai district was found hanging inside a hotel room in Muzaffarpur, a day after she lodged a police complaint alleging domestic violence and harassment by her husband and in-laws, officials said.
The woman, identified as Nigam Kumari, had travelled from Ahmedabad to Begusarai on Sunday and later checked into a hotel in Muzaffarpur. Police said hotel staff discovered her body on Monday after she failed to respond to repeated knocks on her room door.
Sadar police station SHO Navlesh Kumar Azad said the circumstances indicated a possible suicide, but investigators were examining all aspects of the case. The room was reportedly found locked from inside, and forensic experts collected evidence from the spot.
Police said Nigam had approached Teghra police station on Sunday and submitted a written complaint against her husband Madan Kumar and his family, alleging domestic violence and physical and mental harassment. Investigators are examining whether the complaint and her subsequent death are connected.
Her family members said she worked as a manager with a real estate company in Ahmedabad and had been undergoing treatment for depression. Fresh reports also said police were questioning hotel staff and examining CCTV footage as part of the investigation. A man identified as Prabhat Kumar, who had reportedly stayed at the same hotel earlier, is also being looked into by investigators.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said the post-mortem and forensic reports, along with statements from her family, will help establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
