Bangladesh returns Assam farmer hours after alleged abduction near border zero line

A 65-year-old farmer from Assam’s Cachar district was safely returned to India after he was allegedly abducted near the India-Bangladesh border and taken across the border on Tuesday.
The farmer, identified as Ranjit Das, was handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) following discussions between authorities from both countries.
According to family members and eyewitnesses, Das was working in agricultural fields located near the zero line when the incident occurred.
After completing his work, he reportedly went back to retrieve a tool he had left behind. At that point, a group of men allegedly crossed from the Bangladesh side, assaulted him, and dragged him across the border.
The incident triggered panic among residents of nearby villages, who gathered near the border and demanded his safe return.
Senior BSF officials immediately contacted their Bangladeshi counterparts and held talks to secure the farmer’s release.
After several hours, Das was returned safely and was reported to be in good health. The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of farmers working in agricultural lands located close to the international border.
