Teen gets 25 years in prison for rape of 14-year-old girl in Ballia

A local court has sentenced a 16-year-old boy to 25 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old girl nearly two years ago, a police official said on Tuesday.
According to the prosecution, the girl was alone at her home in a village under the Chitbaragaon police station area on August 21, 2024, when the incident occurred.
Her father, who works as a labourer, had gone to work, while her mother was visiting her parental home. The accused, a resident of a village under the Nagara police station area, was staying at his aunt's house in the girl's village at the time.
The prosecution said the accused allegedly entered the house and raped the girl while she was alone.
Following a complaint filed by the girl's father, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police completed the investigation and subsequently filed a charge sheet against the accused in court.
Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh said Special Judge (POCSO Act) Pratham Kant convicted the accused on Monday after hearing arguments from both sides.
The court sentenced him to 25 years' imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000, Singh said. (with inputs from PTI)
