Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft probe extended as SIT seeks more time

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged theft and embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has sought additional time from the Uttar Pradesh government to complete its investigation. The three-member panel, constituted on June 13, has informed authorities that it requires more time to examine financial records, digital evidence and witness statements before submitting its final report.
According to officials, the probe is focused on uncovering the full extent of the alleged financial irregularities, identifying everyone involved and fixing accountability for any lapses in the temple's donation management system. Investigators are analysing CCTV footage, banking transactions and other evidence gathered during the inquiry.
The SIT is also expected to recommend measures to strengthen transparency, security and auditing of donation collections to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The investigation began after allegations of large-scale misappropriation of devotees' donations surfaced, leading to multiple arrests and the recovery of cash and other assets during the probe. Officials have maintained that the inquiry is ongoing and that the final report will be submitted once all aspects of the case have been thoroughly examined.
