Assembly opens its premises to people to mark Republic Day

The Delhi Legislative Assembly opened its historic premises to the public on Monday to mark the 77th Republic Day. The occasion draws large crowds of citizens who participated in celebrations marked by patriotic fervour, cultural performances and tricolour illumination of the iconic Vidhan Sabha building.

The initiative, led by Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, was aimed at bringing citizens closer to the country’s democratic institutions and constitutional heritage.

Addressing the gathering at the Vidhan Sabha premises, Speaker Vijender Gupta said Republic Day symbolises the power of the people, the strength of the Constitution and the resilience of India’s democracy. “Republic Day is a celebration of the people’s power, the strength of our Constitution, and the unbreakable spirit of India’s democracy. By opening this historic Assembly to the public, we are bringing citizens closer to the living heritage of our Republic,” he said.

For the first time in recent years, the 115-year-old Assembly complex was opened to citizens from all walks of life, including families, students and young visitors, who thronged the premises throughout the day. Visitors explored the Assembly building, interacted with officials and witnessed cultural programmes organised specially for the occasion.
