Assam CM launches financial assistance scheme for UdasinBhakats

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially launched the financial assistance scheme for Udasin Bhakats at a programme held in the conference hall of Lok Sewa Bhawan at Janata Bhawan on Friday. The event was attended by Satradhikars and Bhakats from several Satras across the State. Marking the formal launch of the scheme, the Chief Minister handed over cheques to five Udasin Bhakats. Satradhikars and Bhakats from various districts also participated in the programme through video conferencing.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said the scheme has been introduced in recognition of the spiritual, cultural and social contributions of Udasin Bhakats and with the objective of ensuring their welfare. Under the scheme, Udasin Bhakats of recognised Satras in Assam will receive financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per month, which will be directly transferred to their bank accounts. The CM said beneficiary lists were prepared by the offices of the respective district commissioners and forwarded to the Directorate of Cultural Affairs.
After verification by the District Commissioner or Additional District Commissioner, the names were uploaded district-wise on the DIDS portal. The assistance amount will be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts on the 10th of every month. He stated that at present, a total of 620 Udasin Bhakats have been covered under the scheme. The Chief Minister pointed out that many Satras in Assam are facing financial constraints due to a decline in public contributions and a reduction in traditional sources of revenue.
To address these challenges and to ensure the protection and development of Satras, the State Government has taken steps to constitute the Assam Satra Commission with financial powers.
