Argentina-India consolidate strategic partnership to advance global edible oil security and agricultural cooperation

Argentine Ambassador to India Mariano Caucino stated that his country and India “have forged a dynamic strategic partnership that extends beyond commerce—grounded in mutual trust, secure edible oil supply, and a shared commitment to advancing global food security, agricultural innovation, and long-term resilience”.
The Argentine envoy stated that “at the same time, both governments are deepening their collaboration through expanded technical, scientific, and agricultural cooperation, reinforcing a forward-looking relationship focused on innovation, sustainability, and shared prosperity”.
After paying a visit to the Drone Federation of India in New Delhi, Ambassador Caucino affirmed that “we had a very productive meeting with the Drone Federation of India to explore opportunities for the industry to expand in an agricultural powerhouse like Argentina”.
Ambassador Caucino was accompanied by Argentine Agriculture Attache Mariano Beheran who explained that “today, tractors from Captain, Mahindra, and other Indian manufacturers are highly valued and increasingly demanded by Argentine farmers. The best-selling sorghum genetic in Argentina comes from an Indian company whose technology was developed in India. There is already a strong and growing symbiosis between the agricultural sectors of both nations.”
Following PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Argentina in 2025, and as a continuation of the renewed momentum in bilateral relations, Argentina was honoured to subsequently welcome, within the framework of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Agriculture, a distinguished delegation from India’s Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to the city of Rosario, Argentina (the second largest in the country).
This visit reflected a shared spirit of cooperation, technical exchange, and the development of a common agenda aimed at strengthening food security, agro-industrial development, and strategic opportunities between both nations. During their visit, the delegation had the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into diverse agricultural production models and tour Latin America’s most important vegetable oil cluster, reaffirming Argentina’s commitment to open, constructive, and long-term collaboration with India.
Beheran stated that “Argentina is currently concluding one of its strongest sunflower harvest seasons in decades, further strengthening its capacity to supply the world with sunflower oil from a region far removed from armed conflicts and biodiesel mandates that often constrain export volumes elsewhere”.
Soybean oil serves as the safest strategic alternative when palm or sunflower oil face restrictions from other origins, further consolidating the India-Argentina partnership and reinforcing Argentina’s position as India’s leading supplier of premium-quality edible oils. Argentina’s strength lies not only in producing soybeans and sunflower, but also in transforming them industrially through its extensive installed crushing capacity and highly developed logistics network.
