HM Amit Shah to chair Narco-Coordination centre meet on Friday

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 10th apex-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) on Friday, with a strong focus on tackling synthetic drugs, darknet-enabled trafficking, and expanding rehabilitation facilities for drug users, officials said.
The high-level meeting will bring together representatives from 44 central ministries and departments, along with 108 officials from state governments and drug law enforcement agencies. The discussions will be held in hybrid mode and will review ongoing efforts to strengthen India’s anti-narcotics framework.
During the meeting, Shah will release a Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026–2029), prepared after wide consultations with multiple stakeholders. The document is aimed at providing a comprehensive roadmap covering demand reduction, supply reduction, and harm reduction strategies to address the drug menace.
Officials said the roadmap will introduce a network-based enforcement approach with clearly defined roles, timelines, and measurable targets for all agencies. It will also integrate enforcement measures with rehabilitation, awareness programmes, capacity building, and inter-agency coordination.
Shah will also release the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Annual Report 2025 and inaugurate new zonal offices in Jammu and Guwahati during the event.
The government reiterated its “zero tolerance” policy against drug trafficking, aligning the initiative with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s broader vision for a drug-free India. Under a nationwide drug disposal campaign, around 2.09 lakh kg of narcotics worth approximately ₹6,000 crore are expected to be destroyed by enforcement agencies.
Officials said the meeting will provide a comprehensive review of anti-drug efforts and set the direction for coordinated action over the next three years to curb drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
