Ambani planning investments in West Bengal: CM Suvendu

It is investment time in West Bengal after the Adanis. Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday announced the advent of the Ambanis in a big way in the State.
Speaking at a public gathering in Hooghly district, the Chief Minister said that Reliance Industries was planning multi-pronged investment in the State and had sent a high-level committee to explore such possibilities.
“Soon you will see the Ambanis coming in a big way in Bengal... They have sent a high-level team to explore possibilities,” he said the corporate giant would invest across four to five sectors in the State.
Adhikari’s announcement came days after he met with Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant at their Mumbai residence.
The high-level team was to discuss projects like setting up international cable stations at Digha, a semiconductor hub and technology ecosystem, a data centre in the Rajarhat New Town area, and a food park in North Bengal. This is in addition to a Vantara branch project in North Bengal.
The Wednesday announcement comes days after Gautam Adani of the Adani Group announced plans to set up a 4,000-bed hospital and medical college in Kolkata, along with a targeted investment of Rs 1 lakh crore in Bengal over the next decade.
The Chief Minister also announced that his Government would allocate Rs 1,200 crore in the present financial year for the Ghatal Master Plan project so as to fight the decades-old flood problem of the West Midnapore town.
“Governments have come and gone, but hardly a thing was done ... here we will allocate Rs 1,200 crore for the Ghatal Master Plan this financial year. The Centre will provide 50 per cent of the funds, and the state Government will provide the remaining costs,” Adhikari said.
