ALEMAI seeks policy support amid aluminium industry slowdown

The Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India (ALEMAI) launched the ‘Aluminium Bharat’ initiative in New Delhi, unveiled by Minister of State Jitin Prasada, to strengthen India’s aluminium ecosystem. It aims to unite policymakers and industry leaders to address challenges and drive sustainable growth.
As part of this, ‘Aluminium Bharat 2026’, a comprehensive exhibition, will be held in Gandhinagar alongside Alumex India.
Addressing the gathering, Prasada underscored the need to build resilient domestic manufacturing capabilities in the face of evolving global trade dynamics. “The initiative, ‘Aluminium Bharat’, is a statement of intent that India will move up the global value chain in aluminium manufacturing. We are committed to giving Indian manufacturers a level playing field and making Bharat a preferred global hub for high-value aluminium products,” said Prasada.
The industry faces a 40–50 per cent production decline, high energy and raw material costs, and rising imports due to global disruptions and tariff imbalances.
ALEMAI has called for reliable energy access and policy support. The sector, supporting over 10 lakh jobs, remains vital for value addition, self-reliance, and India’s broader economic and sustainability goals.
