Adani Group proposes Rs 1.08 lakh crore aluminium project in Odisha, 53,000 jobs expected

The Adani Group has proposed a massive investment of ₹1.08 lakh crore to establish an integrated aluminium manufacturing project in Odisha, a move expected to create more than 53,000 employment opportunities. The announcement was made by Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bhubaneswar.
The proposed project will include a 4-million-tonne-per-annum alumina refinery, a 2-million-tonne-per-annum aluminium smelter, and a 1-million-tonne-per-annum downstream aluminium park. It will also be supported by a 4,000 MW captive power plant and 400 MW of green energy capacity, making it one of the world's largest integrated aluminium ecosystems.
According to Karan Adani, the project is expected to generate around 35,000 jobs during construction and 18,500 permanent jobs once operations begin.
The investment is aimed at strengthening India's aluminium production, reducing import dependence, and supporting the country's growing infrastructure, transport, renewable energy, and manufacturing sectors. Odisha, which has abundant bauxite reserves and is India's leading aluminium-producing state, is expected to play a key role in the project's success.
