ACA inaugurates cricket ground, pavilion and academy at Barpeta

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Sunday inaugurated a state-of-the-art cricket ground and pavilion- ACA Cricket Academy Lower Assam Zone at Satra Baradi in Barpeta, marking a major boost to cricket infrastructure in the State. The facility has been developed to support both high-performance and grassroots cricket. The programme also saw the foundation stone laid for a proposed players’ hostel to provide residential support to emerging cricketers from the region.
BCCI honorary secretary Devajit Saikia attended the programme as chief guest, while IPL Governing Council member Shri M Khairul Jamal Majumdar was present as guest of honour. Addressing the gathering, Devajit Saikia said the inauguration reflected the Assam Cricket Association’s sustained focus on strengthening infrastructure and promoting grassroots cricket.
He said modern facilities, structured coaching programmes and the proposed hostel would help identify and nurture talent from the region and prepare players for higher levels. The project includes five centre pitches, 10 net practice pitches, dining facilities, match officials’ areas and infrastructure suitable for hosting domestic matches.
It was also announced that Barpeta will serve as the ACA Cricket Academy’s satellite venue for the Lower Assam Zone, while Umrangso will function as the satellite academy for the Southern Assam Zone. Speaking on the occasion, M Khairul Jamal Majumdar said the development of quality infrastructure at district and zonal levels was crucial for the long-term growth of Indian cricket.
He praised the Assam Cricket Association for expanding facilities beyond major centres and said projects such as Barpeta would strengthen the state’s domestic structure and talent pipeline. Romen Dutta said the inauguration marked an important milestone in the association’s efforts to build a strong cricketing ecosystem across Assam and thanked Saikia for his guidance and support. With the launch of the new ground, pavilion and academy, and the proposed hostel, the Assam Cricket Association aims to provide young cricketers with improved training. and competitive opportunities in a professional environment.
