ABVP claims strong college poll showing, eyes 4-0 DUSU victory
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday expressed confidence of winning all four central posts in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections after securing victories in several college-level student union polls across the university.
The ABVP said it had secured sweeps at Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Sri Aurobindo College (Morning), Shivaji College, Bharati College, Dr BR Ambedkar College and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC). Independent reports also confirmed that ABVP won multiple key posts across these colleges, while the college-level results remained separate from the central DUSU contest.
The organisation also announced victories in key posts at Keshav Mahavidyalaya and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, as well as posts in the Department of Library Sciences.
The college-level results were declared as voting was underway on Friday for the four central DUSU posts — president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary. Counting for the central DUSU panel is scheduled for September 19 at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus.
The ABVP's central panel comprises Yash Dabas for president, Ishu Maurya for vice-president, Riya Chhawadi for secretary and Lakshyaraj Singh for joint secretary. The organisation said it had received support from students and expressed confidence that its candidates would secure all four posts.
The ABVP also alleged attempts to influence the electoral process. It claimed that two people were handed over to police at Dyal Singh College for allegedly distributing pamphlets containing incorrect details about the organisation and its panel. It further alleged that a female student carrying a fake identity card was caught at Law Centre-2 (Morning), while two other students carrying purported fake IDs fled the spot.
ABVP Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma sought an impartial investigation into the alleged incidents and action against those found responsible.
Sharma also referred to the Delhi High Court's directions concerning the election process, including its prohibition on victory processions, and said ABVP workers had been instructed to comply with the directions. The High Court has also issued directions concerning alleged violations of election rules and campaign conduct during the DUSU polls.
