4.5-magnitude earthquake jolts off Andhra coast, mild tremors felt in Visakhapatnam

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast early on Sunday, with mild tremors felt across several parts of Visakhapatnam. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at around 5:05 am IST at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located offshore in the Bay of Bengal.
Residents in Visakhapatnam reported feeling brief tremors that lasted a few seconds, prompting some people to step out of their homes as a precaution. However, officials said there were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries or damage to property. Authorities continue to monitor the situation while seismologists assess the event.
The offshore location of the epicentre reduced the impact on populated areas, and officials have not issued any tsunami warning. The National Centre for Seismology continues to monitor seismic activity in the region and has advised the public to rely on official updates for any further developments.
