4 of a family died after electrocution while trying to save each other in Maharashtra's Satara

A tragic accident claimed the lives of four members of a family in Maharashtra's Satara district after they were electrocuted while trying to rescue one another from a live electric current, police said.
The incident took place in Phaltan taluka when the family head reportedly came into contact with a live electric wire and screamed for help. Hearing his cries, his wife rushed to rescue him but was also electrocuted. Their two children then attempted to save their parents and similarly came in contact with the live current, leading to the deaths of all four members.
Police and local residents rushed to the spot after being alerted, but all four victims had succumbed to the electric shock by the time help arrived. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the electrocution occurred. Preliminary findings suggest recent heavy rains may have weakened electrical infrastructure, causing a cable to come into contact with a live power line, though the exact cause is yet to be established.
The heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and once again highlighted the dangers posed by damaged electrical infrastructure during the monsoon season. Officials are examining whether negligence or infrastructure failure contributed to the tragedy.
