39,386 nominations filed for Gujarat local body polls

A total of 39,386 nomination forms have been filed for 10,005 seats across Gujarat in the upcoming local body elections, marking a significant level of participation. The scrutiny of nomination papers is set to begin today, after which the final list of candidates will be confirmed.
According to State Election Commission sources, the overall picture of candidates and the number of uncontested seats will become clear once the verification process is completed.
Additionally, by-elections are being held for 13 seats in 11 municipalities, for which 40 nomination forms have been received. At the district level, elections will be conducted for 5,234 seats in district panchayats, with 4,906 nominations filed. Meanwhile, elections for talukapanchayats—excluding Gandhinagar, Kapadvanj, and Kathlal—have attracted 20,638 nominations for 5,234 seats across 280 talukapanchayats.
Officials indicated that details regarding uncontested seats will also emerge following the completion of scrutiny.
The elections are expected to witness competitive contests across multiple tiers of local governance.
