21 factory workers rescued after bus plunges into Ramganga Canal in Kanpur

A major tragedy was averted in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district after a bus carrying 21 factory workers plunged into the Ramganga Canal following a collision with a dumper truck in Bidhanu area on Thursday morning.
According to officials, the private bus was transporting workers to the Trident factory in Raniya, Kanpur Dehat, when the speeding dumper coming from the opposite direction rammed into the vehicle while crossing the canal bridge. The impact caused the driver to lose control, and the bus broke through the railing before falling into the canal.
Fortunately, the water level in the canal was low, preventing the bus from fully submerging. Panic erupted among the passengers as several workers broke the windows and climbed onto the roof of the overturned bus to seek help.
Local residents rushed to the scene and jumped into the canal to rescue the trapped workers. Villagers, along with police personnel, broke additional windows and pulled the passengers out one by one. Rescue teams later used ladders to safely evacuate everyone from the canal.
All rescued workers and the cleaner were admitted to CHC Bidhanu for treatment. One injured worker was later referred to Ursula Hospital, while officials confirmed that no fatalities or serious injuries were reported.
The bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police said efforts are underway to recover the vehicle using a crane and legal action will follow based on the complaint filed in connection with the incident.
The accident briefly disrupted traffic movement near the Ramganga Canal bridge as rescue operations continued.
