1 dead, 5 injured as car rams into tree in Narela
A 21-year-old woman died, and five others, including a six-month-old girl, were injured after a speeding car crashed into a tree in north Delhi’s Narela Industrial Area early Sunday. Police said the vehicle lost control on the Narela–Bawana Road near Ghoga Crossing around 5 am.
A passerby called the police control room after seeing the damaged car on the roadside. A team reached the spot within minutes. Locals had already rushed all six occupants to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Jyoti, 21, dead on arrival. Four adults and the infant girl are under treatment. “Legal proceedings have been initiated.
“We are checking whether speeding or negligence caused the crash,” a senior-level officer said. He added that the impact was severe and the front of the vehicle was crushed. Police identified the injured as Prashant, 22; Amit, 24; a 22-year-old woman; a 21-year-old woman; and the six-month-old child. Officers said the group were travelling together when the driver lost control. The exact reason is still unclear. There were no skid marks, which has led officers to look closely at speed and road conditions at the time. Officers said the car appears to have swerved sharply before hitting the tree. The front was smashed inward. Glass and debris were spread across the road.
Police photographed the spot, collected brake samples, and checked the surroundings for CCTV cameras. The body of Jyoti has been kept at BJRM Hospital for post-mortem. Police are trying to reach her family. Officers said some of the injured were able to speak and have provided basic details about the journey. More statements will be recorded once they stabilise.
The condition of the child is being monitored by doctors. Police said they will use CCTV footage from nearby industrial units and intersections to trace the car’s movement before the crash. They will also examine phone records of the driver to see if there was a distraction at the wheel. The officer added that the investigation will focus on the exact sequence of events. This includes speed, angle of impact, road condition, and whether any attempt was made to brake before the collision.
Police have also asked hospitals to share updates on the injured so that detailed statements can be recorded.
For now, police are waiting for the postmortem report and the medical condition of the survivors. The officer said the probe will continue, and more details will be released after the vehicle report and witness statements come in.
