In a shocking case of personal revenge, a 28-year-old man was critically injured in an acid attack on Friday night near the Hathaikheda bridge. The victim, Rajesh Sharma, a resident of the Hathaikheda area and a welder by profession, sustained serious facial injuries after his neighbor, Madan Vishwakarma, allegedly attacked him with acid following a prior dispute.
According to Piplani police, the assault was a planned act of revenge stemming from a violent confrontation between the two men just three days earlier. The earlier altercation had escalated into a physical fight, in which Rajesh had reportedly assaulted Madan. The matter was seemingly resolved at Bilkhiriya police station through a mediated compromise, with Rajesh even compensating Madan for medical expenses. However, police say Madan continued to harbor a grudge and plotted retaliation.
Sub-Inspector Santosh Raghuvanshi, who is leading the investigation, said Rajesh was out searching for his missing cattle in a nearby forest on Friday evening when he was ambushed by Madan and two unidentified accomplices. As Rajesh returned home, the trio intercepted him near the Hathaikheda bridge on two motorcycles. They assaulted him and then Madan threw acid on his face before fleeing the scene. Rajesh was rushed to a private hospital where his condition remains critical.
The police have recorded Rajesh’s statement, in which he clearly identified Madan as the primary attacker. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC, including attempt to murder. Police teams are conducting raids to apprehend Madan and the other accused.
Residents of Hathaikheda have expressed outrage and fear following the attack. Many are calling for strict legal action and greater policing in the area to prevent such incidents. “We are shocked that someone could go to such lengths despite a legal settlement. This has scared the entire community,” said a local resident.
Meanwhile, hospital sources say Rajesh may require extensive reconstructive surgeries due to the extent of his burns. He is currently under observation in the intensive care unit, and doctors are monitoring him closely for signs of infection and long-term damage.
Police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information about Madan’s whereabouts. Investigators are also checking CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the movement of the assailants before and after the attack. Authorities have assured swift action and promised justice for the victim.
