Within 24 hours of a stampede in the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh which claimed 30 lives and left 60 injured, a massive fire broke out in Sector 22 of the Maha Kumbh Mela area on Thursday afternoon.
There were no reports of injuries or casualties as of now. The fire brigade personnel reached the spot and doused the fire. Senior officials also reached the spot and were assessing the situation.
Reports suggest that people were not in the tent area when the fire broke out.
Earlier, on January 19 also, a massive fire erupted at the Maha Kumbh Mela area when two cylinders exploded inside a tent. The fire had engulfed at least 100 tents. Fortunately, there were no casualties during that incident.
During the January 19 fire, the blaze was brought under control as fire tenders were already stationed at the Maha Kumbh Mela area.
Reports said that information about the fire in the tents was received at Chatnag Ghat police station on Thursday. “We took immediate action and rushed fire tenders and brought the fire under control. The fire broke out at an unauthorised tent that was erected at the site. As of now, the situation is under control. There were no injuries or casualty in the incident,” said Pramod Sharma, an official from UP Fire Service.
